Keep saving. So many people don't blink at paying hundreds of dollars for a new rake of carriages or similar amounts on 1 loco but have these dead hearts in their layouts that one Magnorail starter set can rectify and you can use practically any vehicle! 😁

I assume you mean base and not plate, the base has t be deep enough to accommodate the drop down motors , about 10cm

Why not incorporate the motor facility in a station on the line? That way you keep all the proportions right

​@@ClydeHumphries Thanks for the reply Hiding the motor isn’t the issue.. I think I explained my problem badly. The train hangs under the rail, but is attached to the Top of the rail by a C shaped arm.. ( similar to the Wuppertal schwebahn). My problem would then be clearance of the drive wheels in the Magnorail Motor at this point ( was going to add a diagram but system won’t allow upload.. and very aware that I’ve pinched someone else’s thread… sorry)

I see the problem now, so yes I don’t think Magnorail can help unless you modify the top to be like a cantenary going direct from the train up to the Magnorail track

The recommended smallest radius for OO IS ABOUT 450mm but some large locos and long carriages cannot manage that. Possibly 040 tank engines would cope with 4 wheel carriages in tow. Trial and error would give you the good mix, or just do what we did with Cato Lake and go to HOe with N scale track and HO locos and carriages

@@MagnorailOz Thanks for that. I’m looking at micro 00 tracks at the moment! Just for short tank engines. I think magnorail will be too small for me to use vehicles.

Sorry - not sure what you mean by too small. Magnorail is under the road bed and the vehicles on top can be what ever size you need. The system is agnostic to what is on top and easily pulls HO scale vehicles and boats. The track can have very tight turns and even 180degree turns with the supplied kit.

@@MagnorailOz I meant too small for me to manage! I think I’ll go for 1/76 for the vehicles as they will be the main attraction, with drivers and customising, with a simple loop of 00 gauge tanker. . Bit of a hold up here in UK getting vehicle starter kit!!

Thanks. Have found something similar. Seems ideal for carving and dioramas. So should be able to route for the track.

The acetate can be from any packaging or I use the clear cover sheets from binding machines- remember to cut the v so there is no edge that can catch the magnets should they slightly ride out of their holes

The red one is a Black & Decker router but the other tool, which can also have a router bit is a battery operated Dremel tool. Thoroughly recommend the Dremel as a great Muti tool for anyone into hobbies.

Hi Laura - we still keep an eye out for comments. The strength of the magnets are relative to the thickness of your road base. With Lemax I suggest to create a more realistic look, is to cut off the pedestal of the unit so that it looks as though it is standing on the ground and not a lump of snow. This applies to people and sleds etc. Then drill a hole to contain the magnet and super glue it in so that is flush with the bottom of the unit, then use some adhesive velvet to reduce friction to cover the base. The heavier the unit the stronger the magnet but as we supply extra strong neodymium magnets (DO NOT LET THEM NEAR CHILDREN) it really is a matter of trial and error as even the small magnets have great adhesion to the track magnets. We do sell extra magnets in our web shop. The only other thing to be aware of is that Lemax units are heavier than the scale cars etc Magnorail usually pulls, so if you are wanting say more than 3 units on a small circuit or for a large circuit, we would recommend having an extra motor. The Magnorail power controllers can have up to 4 motors attached in parallel configuration operating through one transformer/speed controller. We recommend purchasing the fast motor starter sets as these can always be dialled down with the controller but the medium and slow motors have restricted upper limits.

N scale cars are very light and if there is only one magnet too far forward of the front axle, it tends to lift the rear wheels off the road hence the fishtailing. Another magnet at the rear to match a track magnet would have stopped this or alternatively placing the front magnet back behind the fron axle. OR just using a slider which we are moving away from.
